This course will give you an insight into CAE - Certificate of Advanced English. Should any students be interested they will be informed about IELTS - International English Language Testing System and/or TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language as well.
You will get prepared in detail for all the parts of the exams. You will read very demanding texts, listen to conversations and lectures by native speakers as well as people talking with a - heavy - accent. You will learn the official rules when writing e.g. an article or a letter and of course communication is an important part of this course. Tips that may help you improve your score will be part of the preparation.
Dear future student, you may ask: "Why do I need a certificate, as I expect to have a good mark for English on my end-of-school diploma?"
For many German and international universities and colleges a standardized, objective proof of competence is mandatory. They became a necessity because English is often the language of choice for Bachelor- and Master courses of study.
Which certificate/which test would be the right one for you?
The Cambridge University and the British Council are the developers of the CAE and the IELTS tests. TOEFL is the American variation developed by ETS (Educational Testing Service). Each university/college has on its homepage information on which certificates they accept. Very often you will find all three tests mentioned. Important to know is that TOEFL and IELTS are valid for two years while the CAE does not have a date of limitation.
These tests are markedly different in form and content from demands and expectations at school. Inform yourself well in time and start early, because you will need at least one term to be prepared. You decide yourself if and when you want to register for an exam.
The examination fee is not included in the price of the course.
In case the afternoon dates are inconvenient, you are welcome to join our preparation course on Tuesday evening. (AG46.97)
